About Epithelioid Mesothelioma
Epithelioid mesothelioma is the most common cell type, accounting for 60-70% of all mesothelioma diagnoses. Epithelioid cells are uniform cube-shaped or columnar cells that closely resemble normal epithelial cells. This subtype has the best prognosis of the three primary cell types — median survival 12-24 months with standard treatment, and selected patients receiving multimodal treatment (surgery + chemotherapy + radiation, or surgery + HIPEC for peritoneal cases) have shown 5+ year survival. Epithelioid tumors generally respond better to standard chemotherapy (pemetrexed + cisplatin/carboplatin) and to recently-approved immunotherapy combinations.
Compensation Tracks for Epithelioid Mesothelioma
Three parallel compensation tracks are typically available: (1) lawsuits against asbestos manufacturers + premise owners, (2) trust fund claims (60+ trusts hold over $30 billion), (3) VA disability for veterans (mesothelioma rated 100%; asbestosis + asbestos lung cancer also covered).
