About Sarcomatoid Mesothelioma
Sarcomatoid mesothelioma is the most aggressive of the three primary mesothelioma cell types, accounting for approximately 10-20% of cases. Sarcomatoid cells are spindle-shaped and resemble sarcoma cells (hence the name). They are typically resistant to standard chemotherapy and have the poorest prognosis of any mesothelioma subtype — median survival often under 6 months. Treatment generally focuses on symptom management and quality of life. Recent immunotherapy approaches (nivolumab + ipilimumab combination, approved 2020) have shown some response in sarcomatoid patients — important development for an otherwise treatment-resistant subtype.
Compensation Tracks for Sarcomatoid Mesothelioma
Three parallel compensation tracks are typically available: (1) lawsuits against asbestos manufacturers + premise owners, (2) trust fund claims (60+ trusts hold over $30 billion), (3) VA disability for veterans (mesothelioma rated 100%; asbestosis + asbestos lung cancer also covered).
