Why Chicago Needs a Local Mesothelioma Firm
Mesothelioma litigation is inherently local. The exposure happened at specific job sites, in specific buildings, operated by specific companies — all within the Chicago metropolitan area. A firm with physical roots here understands the landscape in ways that national firms flying in for depositions simply cannot.
Local Court Familiarity
Our attorneys regularly practice in Illinois courts. We know the judges, the local rules, and the procedural nuances that can make or break a mesothelioma case. This familiarity translates directly into strategic advantages for our clients.
Exposure Site Knowledge
We have documented 4 asbestos exposure sites across the Chicago metro area. Our investigators know these facilities — which companies operated them, what asbestos products were used, and which workers were put at risk.
In-Person Access
Mesothelioma clients deserve face-to-face meetings with their attorneys. From our Chicago office, we offer in-person consultations, home visits for clients with limited mobility, and hospital visits when needed. National firms fly in. We are already here.
Community Roots
We serve the communities surrounding Chicago because these are communities where asbestos exposure affected real families. Our attorneys have built relationships with local medical providers, occupational health specialists, and support organizations that directly benefit our clients' cases.
About Chicago & Asbestos Exposure History
Asbestos Exposure in Chicago, Illinois
Chicago's industrial backbone — South Works steel, the UNARCO Ford City asbestos plant on the Southwest Side, Western Electric Hawthorne in Cicero (just outside the city), and Pullman-Standard rail manufacturing on the South Side — produced more documented asbestos-disease cases than any other Illinois city. Today the South Works site is undergoing redevelopment; Ford City Mall sits on the former UNARCO plant; the Pullman district is a national monument.

Compensation for Chicago Mesothelioma Victims
Three parallel compensation tracks: (1) lawsuits against asbestos product manufacturers and premise owners — Illinois settlements average $1.0–$1.4 million; (2) trust fund claims against the 60+ asbestos trusts holding over $30 billion (Manville Trust and UNARCO Trust apply directly to Chicago workers exposed at Johns-Manville Waukegan or Ford City facilities); (3) VA benefits for veterans (mesothelioma rated 100%).
Illinois Statute of Limitations: 2 Years
Illinois imposes a 2-year statute of limitations on mesothelioma claims (735 ILCS 5/13-202). The clock starts at diagnosis under the discovery rule. Wrongful-death claims: 2 years from date of death. Do not delay — missing the deadline permanently extinguishes the claim.
Known Asbestos Exposure Sites in Chicago Metro Area
The following facilities have been identified as locations where workers and residents in the Chicago area may have been exposed to asbestos. If you worked at or lived near any of these sites, you may be eligible for compensation.
Exposure Sites in Chicago
Pullman-Standard Manufacturing
Pullman-Standard built railroad passenger cars and freight cars for over a century at the historic Pullman district on Chicago's South Side. Asbestos was used heavily in railcar insulation, brake systems, and ceiling tiles. The plant closed in 1981. The Pullman Historic District is now a national monument; some original buildings remain.
UNARCO/Ford City Asbestos Plant
The UNARCO Ford City plant manufactured Kaylo asbestos insulation for railcars and industrial use, using crocidolite (blue asbestos) — the most carcinogenic fiber type. The plant closed in 1970 and the site was redeveloped as Ford City Mall. UNARCO declared bankruptcy in 1982; the UNARCO Asbestos Trust was established and continues to pay claims. EPA conducted significant remediation of the contaminated site.
US Steel South Works
US Steel South Works was one of the largest steel-producing facilities in the world at its peak, employing over 20,000 workers along Chicago's South Side lakefront. The plant closed in 1992 and was largely demolished. Asbestos was used pervasively for furnace insulation, pipe lagging, gaskets, and brake systems on industrial cranes. Former South Works employees account for a significant fraction of Chicago-area mesothelioma cases.
Western Electric Hawthorne Works
Hawthorne Works was the largest U.S. manufacturing facility through the 1920s, producing telephone equipment for the Bell System. The plant employed over 40,000 workers at peak. Asbestos was used in cable insulation, electrical equipment, building insulation, and ceiling tiles. The famous Hawthorne Studies of worker productivity were conducted here. The plant closed in 1983 and was demolished; a shopping center now stands on the site.
